Dear Friends and Family,
My name is Jack Skidmore and I am a student at the Stone Creek Charter School in Avon, Colorado. I am sending you this letter to ask you for help with a very important cause in which I have been chosen to participate. This year my school was selected by the Children’s Global Alliance (CGA) to send five students to Cambodia in April 2011. CGA is a Vail Valley based non-profit organization dedicated to developing kids in America by giving them hands on experience helping orphaned children in third world countries. I was chosen as one of the five students to go to Cambodia to help at an orphanage in Phnom Penh. We will be teaching English, basic hygiene, cleaning pigsties, and helping to improve the environment for the 75 orphans living there.
To receive this opportunity, I had to write an essay on top of all my regular schoolwork and then had to go through an interview process. I have always wanted to help others and to inspire people to get involved, but to do so I feel I must go there myself first and participate. I have been very fortunate in my life and I would like to give something back. I am an all "A" student and the only male going on this trip. I have a very strong work ethic, and being the only boy I am prepared to help anywhere with anything that needs to be done.
This is one of my dreams and life goals, to make the world better and help and change the world for someone. This is where I need your help. To go on this trip I have committed to fundraise $1,000. I am sending this letter to all of you hoping you can help with a donation. 100% of your donation would be going to fund this trip. This is an opportunity to change the lives of these children. They have nothing more than a grocery bag containing a ripped up pair of shorts and a stained T-Shirt. They sleep on the floor of a building with 75 other kids. Anything you have to donate as far as clothing, toys or medical supplies will be greatly appreciated. The kids will take anything from baby powder to an old broken cell phone. Please, all of your donations are needed to make this trip possible. For the major fundraiser we will have a silent auction on February 1, 2011 at Zacca Za in Avon, CO.
